We are looking for an individual who operates with initiative and a strong sense of ownership, proactively addressing operational issues and driving continuous improvement. Working closely with school stakeholders, FM colleagues, and service partners, the Workplace Manager will directly influence service quality, operational continuity, and customer satisfaction, while also supporting and deputising for the Operations Manager and developing capability across wider FM disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full operational responsibility for cleaning services across three City schools and a sports facility, ensuring delivery to agreed specifications, SLAs, KPIs, and audit standards.
- Plan and manage cleaning shift patterns to ensure effective coverage, resilience, and value for money.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing development of cleaning teams, ensuring competence and compliance at all times.
- Manage periodic, deep, specialist, and reactive cleaning programmes, including holiday works and ad-hoc requirements.
- Monitor service quality through inspections, audits, performance data, and customer feedback, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Provide visible leadership to onsite teams, managing performance, attendance, conduct, wellbeing, and engagement in line with ISS P&C policies.
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, COSHH requirements, safe systems of work, and ISS standards, promoting a positive safety culture.
- Build effective working relationships with school leadership teams, site contacts, and FM colleagues, acting as a professional point of contact for soft services matters.
Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications
- Management experience within an FM or similar environment delivering integrated facility services.
- Proven experience managing soft services, particularly cleaning, in a multi-site or operational environment.
- Strong people-management capability, including recruitment, shift planning, performance management, and team development.
- Sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, COSHH, and safe systems of work.
- Experience delivering services to specifications, SLAs, KPIs, and audit standards.
- Customer-focused with strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Willingness and capability to develop across wider FM disciplines, including hard services.
- Service- and customer-oriented mindset with commercial awareness.
- IOSH Managing Safely qualification or equivalent.
