The role focuses on multi-skilled fabric maintenance, covering plumbing, carpentry, mechanical and general building works. The Fabric Engineer ensures buildings remain safe, functional and compliant, while meeting agreed performance standards and service level agreements (SLAs). Day-to-day activity involves a mix of planned, reactive and proactive tasks, stakeholder liaison, compliance checks and occasional callouts, ensuring all services are delivered safely, compliantly and to agreed performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver planned, reactive and proactive fabric maintenance tasks via the helpdesk within SLA timeframes
  • Carry out plumbing, carpentry, mechanical and general fabric maintenance works
  • Complete external and grounds maintenance tasks as required
  • Participate in the on-call/callout rota
  • Monitor and manage contractors, including issuing and controlling Permits to Work
  • Ensure building assets operate to agreed performance criteria
  • Maintain work areas, tools and plant in line with ISS standards
  • Liaise proactively with clients and on-site stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate records, reports and compliance documentation
  • Work in full compliance with Health & Safety, COSHH, RAMS and Safe Systems of Work

Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications

  • Solid experience in plumbing, carpentry and fabric-related building maintenance
  • Experience as a handy person, maintenance assistant, caretaker or similar role
  • Practical, hands-on approach with good problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to learn, upskill and undertake training or college courses where required
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
  • Understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a building maintenance environment
  • Good communication skills for working with clients, colleagues and contractors
  • Reliable, flexible and professional attitude
  • Full UK driving licence - to travel to client sites
