The Senior Principal Index Engineer is accountable for the strategy, architecture, delivery and operation of the index platforms that underpin index production, research, analytics and client services. The role owns the technology responsible for applying index methodologies to STOXX index data in support of index services. This includes market data, reference data, corporate actions, security master, classification data (ESG, industry, ratings etc) that support differing index methodologies and operational use cases. The Executive Director will establish a strategy that enables the consistent use of trusted data across multiple scenarios. Examples include application of shares and free float information in line with index rules and not market events.
Key responsibilities:
- Define and execute the long-term strategy for index data technology across the index business.
- Establish a data architecture that supports multiple business use cases whilst maintaining a single trusted source of truth.
- Drive the evolution towards cloud-native, scalable and highly resilient data services.
- Own and lead programme planning ceremonies and co-ordinate with key stakeholders across multiple geographically dispersed teams, aligning on scope, priorities and timelines.
- Partner with Product, Research, Operations and Technology leadership to align data capabilities with business objectives.
- Lead planning, technology roadmap and platform modernisation initiatives.
- Own the technology and engineering teams responsible for delivering and supporting index operational data.
- Establish engineering best practices covering design, coding, quality assurance and operational excellence.
- Implement controls ensuring the transparency of data treatments and ensuring the auditability of methodology-derived adjustments.
- Ensure a gold standard of technology portfolio management taking a lead to ensure that compliance, resilience, security and operational risk requirements are met or exceeded.
Qualifications and Experience:
- 15+ years of experience within financial services technology.
- Significant experience building and operating Security Master, Reference Data or Index Data platforms.
- Experience managing complex market data ecosystems with multiple vendor integrations.
- Strong understanding of: Indices, Equities, Fixed Income, Corporate actions, Derivatives, Benchmark administration requirements.
- Experience leading engineering organisations.
- Experience working with cloud-native architectures.
