Location: Gloucester, GL4 3RU Hours of work: 43 Contract Type: Permanent Shift Allowance: £5,000 As a Shift Engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) in line with established schedules. You will ensure that engineering standards are upheld to maximise the operational effectiveness and reliability of the plant and associated systems. Additionally, you will maintain full compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act (HASAWA) and adhere to onsite Quality Assurance procedures, keeping accurate records and documentation for all electrical and mechanical aspects of PPM and plant operations. Job Description The role involves responding promptly and effectively to reactive maintenance issues and help desk requests, conducting technical surveys, and reporting findings to the Supervisor. As a Shift Engineer, you will coordinate client requests, manage enquiries and complaints, and carry out authorised follow-up actions to resolve issues. You will also identify and implement improvements to enhance service delivery, diagnose electrical and mechanical faults, perform minor installations, and maintain lighting and distribution systems. All duties must be carried out in accordance with company procedures and client requirements. Key Responsibilities * Perform Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) according to schedules, ensuring engineering standards and plant reliability are maintained. * Maintain accurate records and documentation for all electrical and mechanical PPM and plant activities. * Respond promptly to electrical and mechanical reactive maintenance issues and help desk requests. * Conduct technical surveys of systems and report findings to the Supervisor. * Coordinate initial actions in response to client requests. * Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults arising from PPM or reactive maintenance. * Carry out minor installation works, repairs, and maintenance of lighting and distribution systems. Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications * City & Guilds Parts 1 & 2 (Electrical Installation 2360) or equivalent. * 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations certification or equivalent. * City & Guilds Part 3 (Electrical Installation 2360) or equivalent. * City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) – preferred but not essential. * Previous experience in business-critical environments. * Strong communication skills, both verbal and IT-based. * Experience using computer-based PPM management systems.
