About the role:

Liquidity is seeking a highly experienced Head of credit and risk to lead the firm’s global credit strategy, underwriting function, and risk governance. In this executive leadership role, you will be responsible for setting the company’s credit philosophy, underwriting standards, and risk appetite, while ensuring disciplined, scalable decision‑making across all lending activities. You will oversee the global underwriting organization, guide complex credit decisions, and play a central role in Credit Committee deliberations and portfolio oversight. Partnering closely with Origination, Legal, Risk, and Portfolio Management teams, you will ensure Liquidity continues to grow responsibly while maintaining strong credit performance and protecting investor capital. This role requires exceptional credit judgment, deep experience structuring complex credit transactions, and proven leadership in building high‑performing underwriting teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and scale the underwriting function across a national loan portfolio
  • Set and enforce credit policy, underwriting standards, and risk frameworks
  • Provide senior‑level structuring guidance and downside risk analysis
  • Oversee underwriting workflow, team development, and execution consistency
  • Serve as a key voice in Credit Committee discussions
  • Partner closely with originations, legal and risk teams.
  • Set underwriting strategy, appetite, and guidelines for the company
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the underwriting global team
  • Oversee underwriting quality, referrals, and complex risk decisions; ensure consistency across territories and segments.
  • Monitor portfolio performance (loss ratios, rate adequacy, hit ratios, retention, exposure and ETC); implement corrective actions when required.
  • Lead risk assessments and develop tailored structuring and mitigation strategies to effectively manage elevated credit and operational risks, including distressed debt situations.
  • Represent Liquidity at market meetings, conferences, and industry events; communicate appetite, capabilities, and differentiation.
  • Champion process improvements, leveraging analytics, tools, and workflow automation for efficiency and control.
  • Collaborate with Claims on trend insights and with Legal/Compliance on policy language, endorsements, and emerging risks.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of underwriting experience. Private credit/ Banks/ Debt funds
  • 10+ years of people leadership (managing managers or multi‑level teams) with demonstrated coaching and performance management.
  • Strong analytical acumen with experience using underwriting and portfolio performance metrics to drive decisions.
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with the ability to influence across functions and levels.
  • Strong credit judgment across sponsor risk, budgets, lease‑up, take‑out analysis, and capital structure
  • Ability to balance growth with disciplined risk management
