Our client is seeking an experienced Data Platform, Cloud or Security Architect to support the design of a strategic Unified Data Platform for a major UK public sector organisation. This is a high-profile architecture engagement that will help shape the future data capabilities of a nationally significant programme.

Working alongside senior architecture consultants and client stakeholders, you'll play a key role in refining the target architecture, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, security, governance, operational and non-functional requirements, whilst supporting the organisation through internal architecture review and approval processes. This engagement offers the opportunity to influence the design of a modern cloud-native data platform built around AWS, Databricks and Enterprise Data Governance principles.

Skills and Experience:

  • Essential
    • Proven experience operating as an AWS-focused Data Platform Architect, Cloud Architect, Security Architect or Enterprise Architect within large-scale, complex environments.
    • Strong experience designing modern cloud-based data platforms using AWS.
    • Experience designing enterprise-scale Data Lake and Lakehouse architectures.
    • Strong knowledge of Amazon S3 storage strategies, including Bronze, Silver and Gold data layer architectures.
    • Experience designing scalable data ingestion, integration and orchestration solutions.
    • Strong understanding of Databricks architecture and data engineering patterns.
    • Experience developing enterprise architecture documentation and supporting architecture governance processes.
    • Strong understanding of Data Governance, security and operational best practice.
    • Experience defining non-functional requirements including resilience, scalability, availability, performance and operational support.
    • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Refine and develop the target architecture for a new Unified Data Platform.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security standards, governance frameworks and operational requirements.
  • Produce high-quality architecture documentation, technical designs and supporting artefacts.
  • Design scalable ingestion patterns supporting databases, APIs and file-based integrations.
  • Define Data Lake and Lakehouse architecture using Amazon S3, supporting Bronze, Silver and Gold data layers.
  • Design transformation, orchestration and processing patterns using Databricks and supporting AWS services.
  • Develop secure and scalable data consumption patterns supporting reporting, analytics, operational applications and APIs.
  • Define architecture for governance, security, observability, resilience and operational support.
  • Support technical governance, architecture review boards and design assurance activities.
  • Collaborate closely with enterprise architects, security specialists, engineering teams and business stakeholders to ensure the proposed architecture aligns with strategic objectives.

NB: The successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic level of security clearance before undertaking the assignment (around one weeks’ lead-time).
