The Opportunity:
We are currently seeking an experienced Test Engineer with proven experience consulting as a Test Engineer on modern web-based services for the Government Digital Services (GDS) platform. You will be joining a delivery team working on high-quality, user-centred digital services, where you will work closely with developers, product owners and delivery colleagues to ensure services are robust, accessible, secure and performant. This role will suit someone with strong automation, API testing, accessibility and security testing experience, who is comfortable working in an Agile environment.

- Strong hands-on experience with:
- BrowserStack (cross-device/browser testing)
- Ruby Cucumber / Gherkin (BDD)
- Selenium
- API testing (REST, Postman/Newman)
- Accessibility testing (WAVE, Pa11y)
- Security testing (OWASP ZAP, Dependency Check)
- Confident using browser developer tools and debugging techniques
- Strong understanding of version control using Git
- Comfortable working in Agile delivery environments
- Desirable:
- Performance testing using JMeter or BlazeMeter
- Experience working with the GOV-UK Design System and assuring compliance with design standards
- Experience configuring or contributing to CI/CD pipelines for automated testing
Role and Responsibilities:
You will be consulting on meaningful digital services with real user impact, collaborating with experienced, multi-disciplinary delivery teams. A culture that values quality, accessibility and security as first-class concerns where you will have the opportunity to influence and improve testing practices across delivery. Designing, executing and maintaining automated and manual testing practices across web and API-based services, carrying out cross-browser and cross-device testing using BrowserStack. Implementing BDD test scenarios using Cucumber / Gherkin, as well as developing and maintaining automated browser tests using Selenium and Ruby. Performing accessibility testing using tools such as WAVE and Pa11y and conducting security testing using OWASP ZAP and Dependency Check. Validating RESTful APIs using Postman or Newman, along with using browser developer tools (Lighthouse, JavaScript debug console, etc.) to support functional and non-functional testing. Collaborating effectively within Agile delivery teams, contributing to continuous improvement of testing practices whilst maintaining test code, documentation and version control using Git, GitHub or GitLab.
