Contract (6-months) Remote Working Market Rates (c£500 to £575 per day)

The Opportunity: We are currently supporting a confidential public sector organisation on a major central government project (Government Digital Services / GDS) in the search for an experienced Identity and Access Management (IAM) Engineer to join their technology function on an initial 6-month contract basis. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute towards the design, implementation and support of secure identity and access management solutions within a highly regulated, mission-critical environment supporting nationally important services. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening authentication, authorisation and identity governance capabilities across enterprise platforms and cloud environments, helping to ensure secure and compliant access to systems, applications and data.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and support Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions across enterprise environments
  • Support authentication, authorisation and identity governance initiatives
  • Manage and maintain identity lifecycle processes including onboarding, provisioning, role-based access and deprovisioning
  • Support Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and privileged access management solutions
  • Work closely with infrastructure, cloud, security and application teams to ensure secure identity integration across platforms
  • Assist with the implementation and optimisation of access controls, policies and governance frameworks
  • Support audit, compliance and security initiatives relating to user access and identity management
  • Troubleshoot and resolve IAM-related incidents, access issues and authentication challenges
  • Contribute towards automation and continuous improvement initiatives across IAM and security operations
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, standards and operational procedures

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong commercial experience within Identity and Access Management engineering environments
  • Experience supporting enterprise IAM platforms and authentication technologies
  • Good understanding of: Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Identity federation
  • Experience working with cloud identity technologies and enterprise directory services
  • Understanding of security best practices, identity governance and access control frameworks
  • Experience supporting access provisioning and user lifecycle management processes
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability
  • Experience working within secure, enterprise-scale environments
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience within government, healthcare or highly regulated environments
  • Experience with Azure AD / Entra ID, Active Directory or similar IAM technologies
  • Exposure to privileged access management (PAM) solutions
  • Experience supporting cloud-first or hybrid infrastructure environments
  • Familiarity with identity standards such as: OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML

NB: The successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic level of security clearance before undertaking the assignment (around two weeks’ lead-time).
