The Opportunity: Our client is supporting a major UK Government Agency on the delivery and operation of critical cloud-based digital services and is looking to appoint an experienced DevOps Engineer to join an established engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a modern AWS cloud environment, supporting the deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement of live services used across a high-profile government programme. The successful candidate will be a hands-on DevOps Engineer with strong AWS expertise, excellent troubleshooting skills and experience supporting production environments. You'll work closely with software engineers, architects and client stakeholders to ensure services remain secure, resilient and highly available.
Skills and Experience:
- Essential
- Proven commercial experience as a DevOps Engineer, Cloud Engineer or Platform Engineer, with strong AWS experience including: EC2 / ECS / RDS / Amazon DocumentDB / CloudWatch.
- Experience supporting and monitoring live production services.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Experience investigating application defects, infrastructure issues and performance bottlenecks.
- Good programming knowledge in at least one of: Java / C# / .NET.
- Good scripting or development experience in at least one of: JavaScript (Node.js) / Python (Django).
- Experience working within Agile software delivery teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including direct client interaction.

Role and Responsibilities:
- Support the deployment, operation and continuous improvement of cloud-based services hosted within AWS.
- Monitor the health, availability and performance of live production environments.
- Investigate, diagnose and resolve infrastructure, application and performance issues.
- Collaborate with development teams to identify root causes and implement long-term improvements.
- Support incident management and service restoration activities for business-critical applications.
- Assist with infrastructure optimisation, automation and operational best practice.
- Work closely with client stakeholders to investigate issues and communicate progress effectively.
- Contribute to service reliability, resilience and operational excellence across cloud platforms.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation where required.
NB: The successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic level of security clearance before undertaking the assignment (around two weeks’ lead-time).
