The Opportunity: We are supporting a confidential programme for a major central government project (Government Digital Services) and are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Engineer to join a multidisciplinary Agile delivery team working on the development of modern, cloud-based data platforms and user-facing digital services. This role is ideally suited to a QA professional with experience testing data-driven systems, validating end-to-end data pipelines and assuring the quality of applications that consume and present complex datasets. You'll work closely with Product Owners, Data Engineers, Developers and Business Analysts to ensure that data is processed accurately, integrations perform reliably and end users receive high-quality, trusted information. Experience with cloud-based data platforms, REST APIs and geospatial datasets would be highly advantageous. You'll be comfortable working within a collaborative Agile team, communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and taking ownership of testing activities throughout the delivery lifecycle.
Skills and Experience:
- Proven commercial experience working as a Quality Assurance Engineer, Test Engineer or Software QA Engineer.
- Strong experience testing data-driven applications and platform-based solutions.
- Good understanding of data pipelines, ingestion, transformation and end-to-end data flow validation.
- Experience working within Azure cloud environments or similar cloud platforms.
- Experience validating REST APIs and integrated services.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate complex technical issues and data anomalies.
- Experience working within Agile software delivery teams.
- Familiarity with version control and CI/CD practices.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience working with Databricks or similar cloud data platforms.
- Experience testing geospatial datasets or GIS-based applications.
- Knowledge of geospatial data formats including GeoPackage / GeoTIFF.
- Experience working with structured and semi-structured data formats including JSON / CSV.
- Experience working on public sector digital transformation programmes.
- Familiarity with GDS (Government Digital Service) standards and delivery approaches.
- Experience working within highly regulated environments.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Product Owners, stakeholders and technical teams to understand business requirements and translate them into comprehensive test scenarios.
- Design, execute and maintain manual and automated test scripts aligned to user stories and acceptance criteria within Jira.
- Validate end-to-end data pipelines, ensuring accurate ingestion, transformation and delivery of data.
- Perform functional testing across user-facing applications and digital services.
- Support integration testing across APIs, data platforms and front-end applications.
- Verify data quality, integrity and usability from both technical and business user perspectives.
- Execute risk-based testing focusing on critical datasets, integrations and business processes.
- Raise, triage and manage defects with clear reproduction steps, impact assessments and supporting evidence.
- Perform regression testing throughout Agile delivery cycles.
- Produce test completion reports and contribute to quality metrics and delivery reporting.
- Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, retrospectives and technical discussions.
- Champion quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
NB: The successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic level of security clearance before undertaking the assignment (around two weeks’ lead-time).
