We are supporting a confidential public sector organisation in the search for an experienced Infrastructure Architect to join a high-profile digital transformation programme on an initial 6-month contract basis to lead the design of a critical contingency hosting solution supporting a major data centre exit programme. The organisation is currently progressing a strategic migration to AWS and is required to vacate an existing data centre by the end of 2026. As part of their risk mitigation and operational resilience strategy, they require an experienced Infrastructure Architect to assess contingency options and design a viable short-term hosting environment should the cloud migration programme encounter delays.
This is a highly visible and business-critical assignment requiring an architect who can operate across infrastructure, networking, security and operational domains to develop practical and resilient solutions that ensure continuity of service. A strong networking background is considered essential, as a significant proportion of the engagement will involve assessing and designing connectivity, VPN, IP networking and production environment migration strategies.

- Experience designing resilient infrastructure solutions supporting business-critical services.
- Strong understanding of operational resilience, service continuity and risk management principles.
- Experience producing high-quality architecture artefacts and technical design documentation.

Role and Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and definition of a contingency hosting platform to support a critical data centre exit programme.
- Produce end-to-end technical architecture designs covering infrastructure, networking, security, resilience and operational support models.
- Assess existing production environments, dependencies and technical risks associated with data centre closure activities.
- Develop contingency plans should AWS migration timelines be delayed.
- Define infrastructure resilience, business continuity and disaster recovery strategies.
- Create and document Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and Disaster Recovery (DR) approaches.
- Develop application availability and resilience strategies supporting cloud migration objectives.
- Assess and recommend options for hosting critical services within an alternative on-premise environment if required.
- Design network migration and connectivity solutions supporting relocation of production services.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, security and operational teams to ensure designs are technically robust and operationally viable.
- Identify risks, dependencies and mitigation strategies across the programme.
- Produce architecture documentation, technical roadmaps and implementation recommendations.
- Support governance reviews and stakeholder decision-making throughout the engagement.
NB: The successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic level of security clearance before undertaking the assignment (around two weeks’ lead-time).
