The Opportunity

Our client is supporting a major UK Government Agency on a large-scale cloud transformation programme and is seeking an experienced Senior Dev Ops Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design, deployment and operation of secure, cloud-native platforms spanning AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Working within an Agile delivery environment, you'll help build and support resilient, highly available infrastructure, enabling the delivery of critical public services.

The successful consultant will have a strong background in Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes, Platform Engineering, CI/CD automation and multi-cloud environments, with experience designing and operating modern cloud platforms at enterprise scale.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Proven commercial experience as a Dev Ops Engineer, Platform Engineer, Cloud Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer (SRE).
  • Strong experience deploying and managing AWS infrastructure using Terraform.
  • Commercial experience operating cloud-native platforms across AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Excellent knowledge of cloud networking, identity, governance and security.
  • Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines using Git Hub Actions and Flux.
  • Strong Kubernetes experience including: Amazon EKS / Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) / Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)
  • Experience with Service Mesh technologies such as Istio.
  • Kubernetes configuration management using Kustomize.
  • Experience deploying and securing AWS API Gateway.
  • Strong operational monitoring, logging and alerting experience.
  • Experience supporting event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka.
  • Strong scripting skills using Python, Bash or Power Shell.
  • Excellent knowledge of Git, Git Hub or Git Lab.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working directly with clients within Agile delivery environments.

Desirable

  • Java Script frameworks including Angular or React.
  • Authentication technologies including OAuth 2.0, Open ID Connect (OIDC) and SAML.
  • Cloud migration and modernisation programmes across AWS, Azure and GCP.
  • Platform Engineering and reusable cloud platform design.
  • Experience delivering within UK Government, GDS or other highly regulated environments.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy and manage secure, scalable cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure and GCP.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform.
  • Build, optimise and support CI/CD pipelines using Git Hub Actions, Flux and modern Dev Ops practices.
  • Deploy and operate Kubernetes platforms including Amazon EKS, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
  • Implement and manage Service Mesh technologies such as Istio.
  • Manage Kubernetes configuration using Kustomize and associated tooling.
  • Design and deploy secure API Gateway solutions.
  • Develop operational monitoring, logging and alerting capabilities to support highly available services.
  • Support event-driven microservice architectures incorporating Apache Kafka.
  • Design secure cloud networking solutions across AWS, Azure and GCP, including networking, routing, DNS and load balancing.
  • Automate operational processes using Python, Bash or Power Shell.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, security specialists and client stakeholders to deliver robust cloud-native platforms.
  • Contribute to platform engineering initiatives, reusable infrastructure components and cloud migration activities.

NB

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic level of security clearance before undertaking the assignment (around two weeks’ lead-time).
