The Opportunity: We are currently supporting a confidential public sector organisation in the search for an experienced Network Engineer to join their technology function on an initial 6-month contract basis for a major central government project (Government Digital Services / GDS). This is an excellent opportunity to support and enhance critical network infrastructure within a highly secure, mission-critical environment supporting nationally important services. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining network performance, availability and security across complex enterprise environments, while supporting infrastructure modernisation, operational resilience and continuous improvement initiatives.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Support, maintain and optimise enterprise network infrastructure across complex environments
- Monitor network performance, availability and security, proactively identifying and resolving issues
- Troubleshoot network incidents, outages and connectivity issues across multiple environments
- Support infrastructure upgrades, migrations and network improvement projects
- Work closely with infrastructure, security and operational teams to ensure reliable and secure network services
- Assist with network capacity planning, resilience and disaster recovery activities
- Support network security controls and compliance requirements
Configure and support network technologies including:
- Routing
- Switching
- Firewalls
- VPNs
- Wireless networking
Skills and Experience:
- Strong commercial experience operating within enterprise network engineering environments
- Proven experience supporting and troubleshooting complex network infrastructure
- Experience working with enterprise-grade networking equipment and technologies
- Good understanding of network security principles and operational best practice
Desirable Experience:
- Experience within government, healthcare or highly regulated environments
- Exposure to cloud networking technologies within AWS and/or Azure environments
- Familiarity with network monitoring and observability tooling
- Experience supporting hybrid infrastructure environments
Strong understanding of:
- TCP/IP
- DNS
- DHCP
- Routing and switching
- Firewalls
- VPN technologies
Relevant networking certifications advantageous, such as:
- CCNA
- CCNP
- CompTIA Network+
- JNCIA
NB: The successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic level of security clearance before undertaking the assignment (around two weeks’ lead-time).
