ISQ Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced HGV Technician to join a busy commercial vehicle fleet workshop in the Southampton area. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified HGV Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Technician or Commercial Vehicle Technician looking for a 4 on 4 off day shift, strong earning potential and regular overtime opportunities.
You will be joining an established technical team responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy commercial vehicles and trailers, with ongoing training, development and long-term career progression available.
The Role
Working within a professional fleet maintenance environment, you will carry out servicing, inspections, diagnostics and repairs to ensure vehicles remain safe, compliant and operational. The role will involve both planned maintenance and reactive repair work, requiring strong technical knowledge and a thorough understanding of DVSA standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out major and minor repairs to HGVs, trailers and commercial vehicles
- Complete routine servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance
- Diagnose mechanical and vehicle faults and plan appropriate repairs
- Identify worn, damaged and defective components in line with DVSA standards
- Carry out repairs to a high standard of workmanship
- Maintain accurate vehicle repair and maintenance records
- Complete job cards, technical paperwork and warranty documentation
- Support roadside repairs and emergency vehicle assistance where required
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment
- Work closely with the wider workshop and maintenance team to minimise vehicle downtime
What We're Looking For
- NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds Level 3 or IMI Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
- Previous experience as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic or Heavy Vehicle Technician
- Strong commercial vehicle and trailer repair experience
- Ability to identify vehicle defects and worn components to DVSA standards
- Confident carrying out servicing, maintenance and mechanical repairs
- Good diagnostic and fault-finding ability
- Full UK driving licence
- IRTEC accreditation is desirable but not essential
