Pay: Weekly paid

Shift Pattern: Rotating weekly shifts - 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, 10pm-6am

Working Pattern: Monday-Friday on days/afternoons and Sunday-Thursday on nights

Overtime: Paid at 1.33

Company Overview: Country Style Foods is a well-established food manufacturing business supplying a range of major retailers and food service customers. The Stockton-on-Tees site produces frozen desserts and fruit pies, with major investment planned across the site, including improvements to the building, offices, fabrication areas, canteen facilities and production equipment. The site is also preparing for a major automation project, creating a strong opportunity for the successful person to be involved in machinery installations, process improvements and longer-term engineering development.

Role Overview: We are looking for an electrically biased Engineering Shift Supervisor to lead the engineering team on shift at the Stockton-on-Tees site. This is a hands-on leadership role within a busy food manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the shift engineering team, supporting breakdown response, driving planned maintenance activity and helping improve machinery performance across site.

Team Structure: The Engineering Shift Supervisor will report into the Engineering Manager and will lead a small shift-based team, including:

  • Electrical Engineer
  • Mechanical Engineer
  • Apprentice Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering team on shift, ensuring work is prioritised and completed safely.
  • Support, guide and develop engineers and apprentices within the shift team.
  • Respond to breakdowns and support electrical and mechanical fault-finding across production equipment.
  • Ensure planned preventative maintenance tasks are completed in line with site requirements.
  • Help improve PPM completion, machine reliability and overall equipment performance.
  • Work closely with production teams to reduce downtime and maintain output.
  • Support engineering activity across food manufacturing machinery, services and automated equipment.
  • Assist with upcoming automation projects, machinery installations and site improvement work.
  • Use site systems, including Redzone, to monitor machinery performance and support engineering decisions.
  • Ensure engineering standards, hygiene requirements and food safety procedures are followed.
  • Maintain accurate records of breakdowns, PPMs, repairs and engineering actions.
  • Support safe systems of work, risk assessments, permits and general health and safety standards.
  • Contribute ideas for engineering improvements, reliability gains and better ways of working.
  • Escalate recurring issues or higher-risk faults to the Engineering Manager.
  • Ensure shift handovers are clear, accurate and useful for the following shift.

Machinery and Equipment: The role will involve working across a range of food manufacturing and site equipment, including:

  • Ovens
  • Chillers and fridges
  • Compressors
  • Depositors
  • Ball chop equipment
  • CIP systems, including cream valves
  • Checkweighers
  • X-ray equipment
  • Metal detectors
  • Production and packaging machinery
  • Automated systems as the site continues to invest

Essential Requirements:

  • Must be commutable to Stockton-on-Tees.
  • Strong electrical bias, with proven electrical fault-finding ability.
  • Minimum Level 3 engineering qualification.
  • Previous leadership experience within engineering, maintenance or shift supervision.
  • UK food manufacturing experience.
  • UK work experience.
  • Able to work a rotating shift pattern, including Sunday-Thursday nights.
  • Stable permanent work history.
  • No requirement for visa sponsorship.

Candidate Profile: This role would suit someone currently working as an Engineering Shift Supervisor, Engineering Team Leader, Maintenance Team Leader, Lead Engineer or Senior Maintenance Engineer within food manufacturing. The successful candidate is likely to be electrically biased, confident leading others on shift and comfortable remaining hands-on when needed. They will be used to supporting production, responding to breakdowns, managing priorities and maintaining high standards around safety, hygiene and engineering performance.
