ISQ Recruitment is supporting a growing engineering business in Cambridgeshire to recruit a Design & Process Engineer. This newly created position offers variety, autonomy, and the chance to make a real impact across both design and production functions.
About the Role:
You’ll be responsible for designing and developing product-specific components that support safe storage, movement, and assembly. Using tools like SolidWorks and Kasemake, you’ll create practical, CAD-based designs while working to improve associated processes.
Alongside the design work, you’ll collaborate with teams across production, assembly, and supply chain to identify improvement opportunities and reduce waste using Lean principles.
What You’ll Be Doing
Create CAD designs for custom components that support the safe handling and assembly of products
Work with production and assembly teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and easy to implement
Review and refine existing product handling and assembly processes
Select appropriate materials and recommend improvements to reduce cost or improve safety and sustainability
Maintain BOMs and manage design data within the MRP system
Investigate and resolve issues related to design, handling, or assembly
Contribute to Lean improvement activities, including A3 problem solving
Document and help standardise new processes
Liaise with suppliers to ensure design solutions are delivered effectively What We’re Looking For Essential:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
2+ years in a design or process engineering role
Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks)
Experience in a manufacturing, assembly or low-volume production environment
Understanding of Lean principles and process improvement techniques
Ability to produce and interpret technical drawings Desirable:
Experience designing components to assist with product assembly or handling
Familiarity with CAD tools beyond SolidWorks (e.g. Kasemake or similar)
Involvement in continuous improvement projects or use of A3 methodology
Understanding of BOM structures and MRP systems Why Apply?
