ISQ Recruitment is recruiting for a Health and Safety Manager to join a well-established food manufacturing site in Bedfordshire. This is a site-based role with day-to-day ownership of Health and Safety across a busy production environment. The site is going through investment and operational change, creating a good opportunity for someone who wants to have a clear influence on standards, behaviours and how Health and Safety is applied across the operation.
The role would suit a Health and Safety professional from a manufacturing, food, FMCG, industrial or logistics background. You will work closely with site leadership, production, engineering, hygiene and contractor teams, helping managers apply safe working practices in a practical and consistent way. This position needs someone who is comfortable balancing compliance, records and audit requirements with regular time spent on the shop floor, supporting teams and challenging standards where needed.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Taking day-to-day ownership of Health and Safety across the site
- Maintaining and improving risk assessments, procedures, safe systems of work and site safety records
- Working closely with production, engineering, hygiene and site leadership teams
- Supporting managers with practical Health and Safety guidance
- Leading incident investigations and making sure corrective actions are completed
- Identifying key site risks and helping reduce repeat issues
- Supporting contractor activity, permits and safe systems of work
- Preparing for audits and keeping compliance activity up to date
- Attending site leadership meetings and providing clear Health and Safety updates
- Supporting improvements linked to safety culture, standards and everyday working practices
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- NEBOSH qualification
- Health and Safety experience within manufacturing, industrial, logistics, FMCG or a similar operational environment
- Experience taking responsibility for Health and Safety activity on site
- Confident working with managers, supervisors and shop floor teams
- Able to investigate incidents and follow actions through properly
- Good understanding of risk assessments, accident prevention and safe systems of work
- Confident communicator, with the ability to challenge where required
- Practical, organised and able to manage several priorities at once
Desirable
- Experience within food manufacturing or food processing
- Experience working around production, engineering, hygiene and contractor activity
