We are recruiting for a Health and Safety Manager to join a food manufacturing site in Bedfordshire. This is a site-based, hands-on role with full responsibility for Health and Safety across the operation. The business needs someone who will be visible on site, work closely with teams, and help drive improvements in both safety standards and day-to-day behaviours.
The site is going through continued investment and change, so this role would suit someone who can combine strong Health and Safety knowledge with a practical, people-focused approach. This is not a desk-based compliance role. The right person will need to build trust, follow through on actions, and work with managers and operatives to make sure standards are understood and applied properly.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Taking ownership of Health and Safety across the site
- Maintaining and improving site safety systems, procedures and risk assessments
- Working closely with production, engineering, hygiene and leadership teams to promote safe working practices
- Building a visible presence on site and supporting improved safety behaviours
- Leading incident investigations and ensuring corrective actions are followed through
- Advising on suitable control measures and legal compliance requirements
- Monitoring key site risks
- Supporting contractor activity and ensuring work is carried out safely
- Attending site leadership meetings and providing clear Health and Safety guidance
- Keeping records, audits and compliance activity up to date
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- NEBOSH qualification
- Proven Health and Safety experience within manufacturing, industrial or logistics environments
- Experience taking ownership of site Health and Safety activity
- Strong communication, coaching and influencing skills
- Experience leading investigations and implementing practical improvements
- Good understanding of risk management, accident prevention and safety culture
- Organised and able to manage multiple priorities
- Proactive and solutions-focused approach
Desirable
- Experience within food manufacturing or processing
This role is based within a busy production site operating in a food manufacturing setting. The business is well established, invests in its sites, and places a strong focus on people, standards and continuous improvement. The operation includes production, engineering, hygiene and contractor activity, so the role needs someone who is comfortable working across different teams and different parts of the day. While the contracted hours are Monday to Friday, some flexibility is needed to support site start-up activity, hygiene operations, and occasional contractor or installation work outside normal hours.
Package:
- Competitive salary
- 31 days holiday including bank holidays
- Company pension
- Life cover
Please note: This role is fully site based. No company sponsorship is available for overseas applicants for this position.
