ISQ Recruitment is recruiting for a Health and Safety Manager to join a well-established food manufacturing site in Bedfordshire. This is a site-based Health and Safety role with real ownership across a busy production environment. The site is going through investment and operational change, so the business is looking for someone who can help improve standards, support managers, and make Health and Safety part of everyday working practice.
The role would suit a Health and Safety professional who is comfortable working in a manufacturing, food, FMCG, industrial or logistics environment, and who enjoys being visible across site rather than working only through policies and reports. You will need to be confident speaking with people at all levels, from site leadership through to production, engineering, hygiene and contractor teams. The right person will be practical, consistent and able to build trust while still challenging standards where needed.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Taking day‑to‑day ownership of Health and Safety across the site
- Maintaining and improving risk assessments, procedures, safe systems of work and site safety records
- Working closely with production, engineering, hygiene and leadership teams to improve safe working practices
- Building a regular presence across the site and supporting managers with practical Health and Safety guidance
- Leading incident investigations and making sure corrective actions are completed
- Identifying key site risks and helping reduce repeat issues
- Supporting contractor activity, permits and safe systems of work
- Preparing for audits and keeping compliance activity up to date
- Attending site leadership meetings and providing clear Health and Safety updates
- Supporting improvements linked to safety culture, behaviours and day‑to‑day standards
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- NEBOSH qualification
- Health and Safety experience within manufacturing, industrial, logistics, FMCG or similar operational environments
- Experience taking responsibility for Health and Safety activity on site
- Confident working with managers, supervisors and shop floor teams
- Able to investigate incidents and follow actions through properly
- Good understanding of risk assessments, accident prevention and safe systems of work
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to challenge where required
- Organised, practical and able to manage several priorities at once
Desirable
- Experience within food manufacturing or food processing
- Experience working with production, engineering, hygiene and contractor activity
This is a busy food manufacturing site with production, engineering, hygiene and contractor activity taking place across the operation. The business is well established and continues to invest in its sites, but there is still work to do around consistency, standards and day‑to‑day Health and Safety behaviours. This role needs someone who can balance compliance with practical site presence. You will need to keep records, audits and systems up to date, but also spend time with teams, understand what is happening on the floor, and help managers apply Health and Safety standards properly.
Package
- Competitive salary
- 31 days holiday including bank holidays
- Company pension
- Life cover
Please note: This role is fully site based. No company sponsorship is available for overseas applicants for this position.
