Are you an apprentice trained Mechanical Fitter (Mechanical Engineer) who is passionate about problem solving and maintenance for our Isover manufacturing plant in Runcorn? At Saint-Gobain we are looking for a Mechanical Plant Fitter to work in our Engineering Team. You'll be responsible for the mechanical engineering activities on site on days, working on planned maintenance and continuous improvement and investment projects, in order to keep production running and future-proof our operation.

This Mechanical Fitter will be a part of our Mechanical Engineering Team. You'll be working on our automated machinery and will possess the initiative to solve problems, perform repairs, and collaborate with production as well as the wider engineering team.

Isover is part of Saint-Gobain and offers thermal and acoustic insulation solutions for roofs, walls and floors. Our Isover business designs and manufactures mineral wool insulation solutions in a UK-based plant in Runcorn, Cheshire, which uses 100% renewable electricity. We provide solutions across a wide range of applications, including technical insulation for industry and HVAC, distributed nationwide through our valued channel partners.

This is a days-based role working Monday- Friday 7.30am-3.30pm with an earlier finish on Fridays. Please note we are a 24/7 plant and would therefore require some flexibility out of hours in case of business needs. What we're looking for:

  • Ideally an apprentice-trained mechanical engineer
  • Minimum NVQ Level III qualification in a mechanical engineering discipline
  • A continuous improvement mindset
  • Excellent communication and the ability to solve problems and collaborate with the electrician and other teams
  • H&S focus - safety is paramount for our business
  • Proficiency using CMMS systems and Microsoft packages plus ability to pick up other software when needed

What you will be doing:

  • Planned engineering works on equipment and provide reactive support to the shift teams when needed
  • Use root cause analysis to solve problems and communicate relevant data to prevent reoccurrence regarding maintenance problems
  • Liaise with contractors and shift electrician, working collaboratively on projects
  • Use the CMMS system to plan your work, complete job reports, and order spares. We also use Microsoft packages in our day-to-day roles so a proficiency with IT is essential
