The Nursing Instructor will provide instruction to Nursing students in the classroom, clinical setting, and laboratory setting based on a curriculum which provides career mobility opportunities for individuals who desire educational preparation in nursing.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain current knowledge of nursing practice for the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse (NCBON Standard 21 NCAC 36.0318).
- Instruct in classroom, simulation, clinical, and laboratory settings.
- Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Participate in student admission, progression, and graduation requirements.
- Participate in the academic advising, counseling, registration, and orientation of students.
- Collaborate with other professionals in dealing with students needing special assistance.
- Evaluate student performance of specified skills, theory, and principles.
- Submit requests for supplies and equipment to the Director.
- Promote effective communication and working relationships with personnel of clinical agencies.
- Participate in the orientation of new faculty as necessary.
- Attend program, advisory committee, faculty and division meetings as scheduled.
- Serve on appropriate program and College committees.
- Perform other activities as designated by the Program Director and Division Dean.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution, or obtain within five years, required.
- Prior to or within the first three years of employment, have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to assignment.
- Completion of 45 contact hours of continuing education courses.
- Completion of a certificate program in nursing education.
- Nine semester hours of graduate course work.
- Documentation of successful completion of structured, individualized development activities of at least 45 contact hours approved by the Board.
- Two years full-time clinical employment as a registered nurse, required.
- Maintain a current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina, required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching experience, preferred.
