A Day in the Life of the Electro-Mechanical Technician
In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and upgrading production and facility equipment to ensure everything is running efficiently. You’ll work closely with the maintenance supervisor and other team members to troubleshoot issues, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure that all safety and quality standards are met. Your efforts will directly contribute to the smooth operation of the facility, ensuring top-notch food safety and production quality.
Responsibilities include:
- Inspect and diagnose malfunctioning production and facility equipment to identify issues
- Perform preventive maintenance, install, and repair equipment as needed
- Interpret manuals, blueprints, and work orders to carry out maintenance tasks
- Provide assistance on the production floor to assess maintenance needs and resolve issues
- Communicate and demonstrate equipment functions to production staff
- Collaborate with management to meet plant cost reduction goals
- Follow USDA, GMP, HACCP, SQF, and OSHA regulations in all maintenance activities
- Ensure equipment meets food safety standards to avoid contamination risks
- Maintain tools and equipment to ensure proper operation
- Record all maintenance activities and repairs
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and regulations
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Completion of a craft apprenticeship or an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Maintenance
- 5-7 years of experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in the food production industry
- Experience with electronics, PLC programming, hydraulics, pneumatics, and blueprint reading
- Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance and industrial test equipment
- Familiarity with USDA, OSHA, HACCP, GMP, and SQF standards
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and perform physical tasks as required
