Your Opportunity to Lead the Future of Drug Design. This is a pivotal, newly created leadership role born from the exponential growth within our Drug Design Medicinal Research (DDMR) organization and the strategic importance of our Machine Learning Research team. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of drug design by contributing/leading the evolution and delivery of Isomorphic Labs' cutting-edge ML product suite. You will execute on the technical vision, drive strategic initiatives, and foster seamless collaboration across multiple research, engineering, and product functions, directly impacting our ability to revolutionize drug discovery. This role offers significant autonomy and the chance to mentor and influence a high-performing engineering team, ensuring our platforms and products are at the forefront of innovation. You will be a key driver in translating groundbreaking research into tangible real-world impact. Partnering closely with other senior leadership across Software Engineering, Platform, Research, and Product, you will have the opportunity to push the boundaries of what's technically possible and lead a critical function that underpins Isomorphic Labs' ambitious vision for transforming the pharmaceutical landscape.
What You Will Achieve:
- Define and Champion the Technical Strategy: You will be a key architect of Isomorphic Labs' technical roadmap, specifically for our ML product suite, ensuring alignment with business objectives and scientific advancements.
- Elevate Engineering Excellence: You will establish and execute world-class engineering standards and best practices across all ML-related codebases, driving improvements in quality, scalability, and maintainability.
- Contribute to the Evolution of our Product Portfolio: You will provide strategic technical contributions in the design, development, and deployment of all Isomorphic Labs' product and platform offerings, directly leveraging your deep engineering expertise to significantly accelerate drug design processes and deliver tangible business value.
- Ensure Robust and Scalable Solutions: You will be accountable for ensuring our ML models meet the highest engineering standards in terms of architecture, scalability, security, maintainability, and operational excellence, enabling seamless integration and deployment within our platform.
- Forge Strategic Partnerships: You will cultivate strong collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including scientific researchers, product managers, business development leaders, and operations teams, to ensure alignment and effective execution of strategic initiatives.
- Provide Decisive Technical Leadership: You will serve as a key technical authority within the organization, co-owning critical technical decisions related to tooling, infrastructure, architectural design, and technology adoption, influencing the overall direction of our technology stack.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Essential:
- Deep Expertise in Software Engineering: Proven track record of partnering with a range of software engineering teams, with a strong understanding of modern software development methodologies and best practices.
- Extensive Experience in the Full ML Development Lifecycle: Comprehensive understanding and practical experience across the entire machine learning lifecycle, from data acquisition and preprocessing to model development, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
- Significant Depth in Applied Machine Learning: Demonstrated ability to apply advanced machine learning techniques to solve complex problems, with a strong understanding of underlying principles and trade-offs.
- Proven Delivery of High-Impact Projects: Consistent track record of successfully delivering complex, high-quality engineering with significant business impact and demonstrable results.
- Strong Platform Engineering Acumen: Deep understanding and practical experience in building and managing scalable and reliable platform infrastructure, ideally within a research-driven environment.
- Experience with Diverse Infrastructure Frameworks: Hands-on experience with a variety of infrastructure frameworks and technologies, ideally gained in a leading-edge research or technology organization.
- Exceptional Collaboration and Communication Skills: Proven ability to effectively partner and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including research scientists, product managers, and business stakeholders, with excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Experience Building Secure and Scalable Cloud-Native Solutions: Deep experience in designing, building, and deploying secure and highly scalable platforms and products on major cloud providers (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Nice to have:
- Pharma and/or biotech industry experience, ideally with a focus on drug discovery.
- Familiarity with ML accelerator hardware.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

Hybrid working: It's hugely important for us to share knowledge and build strong relationships with each other, and we find it easier to do this if we spend time together in person. This is why we follow a hybrid model, and would require you to be able to come into the office 3 days a week (currently Tuesday, Wednesday, and one other day depending on which team you're in).
