Isomorphic Labs (IsoLabs) was launched in 2021 to advance human health by building on and beyond the Nobel-winning AlphaFold system. Our interdisciplinary team of drug discovery experts and machine learning specialists has built powerful new predictive and generative AI models that accelerate scientific discovery at digital speed. Our name reflects the belief in a symmetry between biology and information science. By harnessing AI's capabilities, we model complex biological phenomena to help design novel molecules, anticipate drug performance and develop innovative medicines to treat and cure diseases.

We are building an interdisciplinary Exploratory Sciences team focused on tackling proteins critical to disease biology, traditionally considered intractable. We work at the interface of machine learning, chemical biology and drug discovery, collaborating across Isomorphic Labs to apply our platform to challenging problems. We are growing the Peptides team within Exploratory Sciences and are recruiting several scientists to drive projects towards the clinic. This role is for a Chemistry Lead, specializing in peptides. Applications from those with PhD experience in peptide design and synthesis but no professional experience will be considered as junior positions will be opened in the near future.

Your impact: As a member of the Peptides team, you will contribute to the development and application of a state-of-the-art peptide design platform. You will design and execute bold strategies to tackle problems that are currently considered impossible, collaborating with AI/ML and Drug Design Platform teams to deliver scientific expertise and strategic direction that advance the platform and solve unsolved drug design problems.

What You Will Do:

  • Apply state-of-the-art knowledge of peptide design and synthesis to develop novel approaches to long-standing challenges in drug discovery.
  • Utilise internal AI/ML models to solve challenging drug discovery problems.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and third-party organisations, working within multidisciplinary teams to support data-driven delivery of high-quality scientific solutions.
  • Represent the company externally, engaging with existing and prospective collaborators and contract research organisations (CROs).
  • Prepare detailed scientific proposals and reports to support new and ongoing programs.
  • Embrace and champion a culture of inclusion and continuous professional development.

Skills And Qualifications:

  • Essential: PhD in Chemistry, or a related technical field, or equivalent industrial experience.
  • 3+ years' professional experience in a Chemistry role, in biotech/pharma or a Post Doc position.
  • Practical experience in the design and synthesis of therapeutic peptides, ideally with activity in drug discovery projects.
  • Experience of coding in Python, or a willingness to learn in-role.
  • Genuine passion for applying AI/ML to drug design and its potential to transform the field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work in a cross-functional team.
  • Creative problem solving, growth mindset, adaptability, and eagerness to learn new concepts and techniques.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with contract research organisations (CROs).
  • Experience with peptide screening techniques.
  • Experience contributing to structure-based drug design (SBDD).
  • Experience applying ML methods to drug discovery problems.
  • Authorship of relevant scientific manuscripts.

Culture and values: We are guided by our shared values. These help guide our work and strengthen it: Thoughtful (curiosity, creativity and care); Brave (initiative and integrity); Determined (confidence in hypotheses, urgency and agility); Together (connection and collaboration). We are building an extraordinary company by fostering collaboration, learning, and supporting every employee to thrive. We value diverse experiences, knowledge, backgrounds, and perspectives to create extraordinary impact.

We are committed to equal employment opportunities regardless of sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, disability, age, citizenship, marital or domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy or related condition, or any other basis protected by law.

Hybrid working: We follow a hybrid model and would require you to be able to come into the office 3 days a week (currently Tuesday, Wednesday, and one other day depending on team).
