We are recruiting a part-time (0.6FTE) Qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QToD) to join our service from September 2026, working in an advisory capacity within a vibrant, diverse and multi-cultural community. This role provides an opportunity to use your expertise to deliver a statutory service supporting deaf children and young people.
In this advisory role, you will hold responsibility for a caseload of babies, children and young people, offering specialist guidance to families, early years providers and mainstream schools. You will work alongside education staff to strengthen inclusive practice, sharing effective teaching approaches and personalised interventions that enable deaf learners to fully access the curriculum.
The role also involves the delivery of high-quality training, including whole-school INSET and targeted professional development, to build confidence and expertise within educational settings. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating closely with audiology, health professionals and other SEND services to ensure coordinated and effective support. The post requires travel to a range of settings across the borough, for which a travel allowance is provided.
We are looking for a highly skilled practitioner with recent or current classroom experience, extensive knowledge of SEND, and substantial experience working with deaf children and young people across a variety of contexts, including home-based support. You will be a confident and empathetic communicator, well organised, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
Ideally we would like to appoint a qualified and experienced teacher of the deaf, however the post is also open to qualified teachers who would like to undertake a post-graduate programme in order to qualify. The course will be fully funded and the successful applicant will be required to commit to working for the service for a fixed period of time. The trainee would be supported and mentored by a qualified teacher of the deaf.
