About The Role
Build a Fairer Future in Islington – Join Us as a Senior Registered Building Inspector (Class 2D–2E). Are you passionate about shaping safer, more inclusive communities? We’re on a mission to create a more equal Islington, where everyone has the chance to thrive. As a Senior Registered Building Inspector, you’ll be at the heart of this mission—helping to ensure that every building in our borough is safe, sustainable, and built to last.
Location: Islington, London (at least 2 days of the working week are expected to be in our offices at Islington Town Hall with the remainder as remote working)
Grade: P02–P04 + 15% market supplement
Team: Building Control
Reports to: Team Manager, Building Control
What Skills and Experience Do You Need?
- A Level 5 qualification in Building Control, or a relevant degree (such as Building Surveying, Construction, or Structural Engineering), or equivalent experience.
- Registered Building Inspector status (Class 2D–2E) with the Building Safety Regulator.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (RICS, CABE, CIOB, or similar) and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Strong knowledge of building construction, legislation, and best practice.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of people.
- Confidence in using IT systems and managing records.
- Experience supervising or mentoring others is a real plus.

You’ll join our friendly, ambitious Building Control team, reporting to the Team Manager and working alongside a diverse group of professionals who are passionate about public service. Together, we support each other to deliver a high-quality, responsive service that puts Islington’s residents first.
