Islington Council's Building Control team is looking for a Registered Building Inspector to help ensure every building in our borough is safe, sustainable, and built to last.

Location: Islington, London (at least 2 days in our offices at Islington Town Hall with the remainder remote).

Grade: Scale 6 - S02 + 15% market supplement.

Team: Building Control.

Reports to: Team Manager, Building Control.

You will join a friendly, ambitious Building Control team, reporting to the Team Manager and working alongside a diverse group of professionals who are passionate about public service. Our team is part of the Community Wealth Building service area and we value collaboration, ambition, resourcefulness, and empowerment—our CARE values.

What Skills and Experience Do You Need?

  • A Level 4 qualification in Building Control, or working towards a relevant degree (such as Building Surveying, Construction, or Structural Engineering), or equivalent experience.
  • Registered Building Inspector status (Class 2A-2C) with the Building Safety Regulator.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (RICS, CABE, CIOB, or similar) and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Strong knowledge of building construction, legislation, and best practice.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of people.
  • Confidence in using IT systems and managing records.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring others is a real plus.
