Join Islington Council as a Health Improvement Officer: Healthy Eating and Nutrition and help create positive, lasting change for children and families across the borough. This fixed‑term role (with the potential for extension) offers a chance to work hands‑on with schools, early years settings and communities to improve lunch and snack provision, promote healthier food environments and support families to make healthier choices.

About the role:

  • Support schools, early years and community settings to improve menus, snacks and mealtime experiences.
  • Deliver training and practical support to meet food and nutrition standards.
  • Lead the Families for Life Community Champion programme, recruiting, training and supporting volunteers to share healthy lifestyle messages.
  • Work in partnership across council services and with external organisations to address food poverty and health inequalities.

About you:

  • A degree in nutrition or dietetics (preferably AfN or HCPC registered).
  • Experience working with children, young people and families in diverse communities.
  • Confidence delivering training and working with partners and volunteers.
  • Strong communication, organisation and relationship‑building skills.

About the team:

You’ll be based in Islington’s Health and Wellbeing team within Children and Young People’s Services, working under the Specialist Dietitian for Schools and Early Years. The team is committed to reducing inequalities and improving outcomes for local families, guided by Islington’s CARE values: collaborative, ambitious, resourceful and empowering.
