About The Role
Are you ready to help shape a fairer Islington? We’re looking for a passionate Team Manager to lead our Building Control team, driving excellence and safety in the borough’s built environment.

The Role
- Lead and develop a skilled team of Registered Building Inspectors, ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act 2022.
- Provide expert advice on higher‑risk buildings and fire safety, working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Oversee technical support, policy development, and service improvement initiatives.
- Manage budgets, monitor performance, and drive income generation.
- Champion staff development through coaching, mentoring, and training.
- Handle complaints and queries with a customer‑focused approach, ensuring service excellence.
- Collaborate across the council, partners, and stakeholders to deliver Islington’s objectives and positive cultural change.
What We’re Looking For
- A degree in Building Control, Surveying, Construction, or Structural Engineering, plus significant post‑qualification experience.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (RICS, CABE, CIOB) and evidence of CPD.
- Hold Class 3 and Class 4 Registered Building Inspector status.
- Extensive experience in building control processes, budget management, and service improvement.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and organisational skills.
- In‑depth knowledge of building legislation, compliance, and enforcement.
