Cardfields is a residential outdoor centre based in Essex. We provide recreational and outdoor educational use for schools and community groups and have excellent facilities for private hire. We are seeking a cook to join the team on a permanent basis. This role is not based in London. We are about 40 minutes from London Liverpool Street by train and easy to get to by car or coach. The surrounding area provides plenty of opportunities to get out and about, being in close proximity to Colchester Castle, Colchester Zoo, the River Chelmer and Marsh Farm. We pride ourselves on serving high‑quality, fresh meals and are looking for a passionate Cook to join our busy centre, serving children, young people and adults from diverse communities, including those from Islington and other boroughs.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook high‑quality dishes according to our menu standards.
  • Use produce grown in the gardens.
  • Maintain food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards in the kitchen area.
  • Work efficiently under pressure during busy services.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a professional kitchen environment.
  • A valid Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Strong attention to detail and a “can‑do” attitude.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to business needs.
  • Ability to budget and portion control.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.
