Islington Central Medical Centre (ICMC) is looking to recruit GP receptionist to join our surgery.
Working as a GP receptionist requires great communication and interpersonal skills as the first point of contact for patients. Alongside undertaking administrative roles to ensure the practice runs smoothly, it is integral to the practice that the GP receptionist is dedicated to patient care.
Islington Central Medical Centre is a large teaching and training practice with almost 25,000 patients and a large team of clinical and administrative staff. ICMC is a purpose-built surgery, located just a 5-minute walk from Highbury and Islington Station, which has excellent underground, overground and national rail transportation links.
Main duties of the job
- Greet patients and visitors as they enter the GP
- Be welcoming, friendly and helpful to patients and visitors
- Book in, amend and cancel patient appointments both in person and over the phone in accordance with the practices appointment procedures
- Signpost patients to the correct services and ensure all patients and visitors are redirected accordingly
- Ensure the practice is running smoothly and efficiently and helping the practice manage its extensive patient load
- Be a bridge between patients and the members of the healthcare team to optimise care
- Undertaking administrative tasks
- Maintaining the front reception area, ensuring it remains clean and tidy and free of any obstruction and mess
- Liaising with healthcare professionals when necessary
- Helping new patients get settled into the practice by walking them through the process of officially joining the GP
- Using computers to arrange and amend appointments, helping GPs and nurses stay on top of their workload, and managing e-consultations and patients notes

Job responsibilities
Pay depending on experience, from Β£11.50 an hour
- Arrange appointments, tests and follow-ups
- Work with the other receptionist to ensure the practice runs smoothly
- Provide clerical assistance to staff as required
- Filing, retrieving and monitoring paperwork from patients and staff members
- Signpost and redirect patients to members of the healthcare team
- Having clear and professional communication skills both in-person and over the phone with clear diction and articulation
- Maintaining patients notes and data entry in accordance with the information a patient may relay to you
- Be well informed on the practices procedures and be able to clearly explain this to patients or visitors
- Redirect letters and results to the appropriate member of staff
- Stay up to date with staff training
- Clinically code data on EMIS web clinical system

Qualifications
- GCSE grade A-C (9-4) in English and Maths (or equivalent)
- NVQ in Customer Service or equivalent experience
