Join our dedicated team at the Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) in Exeter and its linked Outreach Team, providing specialist mental health care during the perinatal period.This unique role offers variety and impact working across an eight‐bed inpatient unit and supporting families in the community. You will collaborate with a skilled multidisciplinary team, contribute to assessments and reviews, and help shape the future of perinatal mental health services.This is a fixed‐term post for 12 months which offers 7.5 programmed activities.Why join us? Work in a nationally commissioned specialist service.Opportunities for service development, education, and research.Supportive environment with strong administrative and clinical backing.Main duties of the job The role of the Specialty doctor on the MBU includes being part of a MDT team and playing an active part in the team meetings and ward reviews. The role includes completing assessments and reviews of patients outside of these MDT meetings.The postholder will also provide a degree of cover during periods when the Consultant is on leave. We aim to bring those values to life in our everyday tasks by giving a smile, making time for people, challenging ourselves & others, and being open to new ideas.Qualifications MB BS or equivalentGMC registrationDesirable qualifications Membership or Affiliateship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.Research Interest in maintaining up to date clinical knowledge base.Desirable research Enthusiasm to contribute to research on site.Publications in peer reviewed journals.IT skills.Personal skills & CPD Ability to communicate with clarity in spoken and written form.Flexible approach, keen to accept new challenges.Punctuality / good time management.Honesty and integrity.Well organised.Commitment to CPD process.Ability to organise own learning/CPD.Meets professional health requirements.Ability to be mobile across a geographical area in a timely manner and in accordance to service need.Desirable personal skills Ability to critically examine practice.Registered with Royal College of Psychiatrists for CPD.Access to appropriate transport to fulfil the post.Clinical skills & knowledge Excellent clinical skills in interviewing and physical and psychological assessment of patients.Writing comprehensive, clear medical notes.Ability to manage crises and act independently.Ability to manage potentially violent and disturbed patients.Confidence in assessing and managing physical health problems and emergencies.Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983.Desirable clinical skills Up to date CPR training.Ability to apply psychological models to practical situations.Evidence based knowledge of perinatal psychiatry.Knowledge of clinical risk management.Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation.Experience Has completed at least four years full‐time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part‐time or flexible basis).At least two of these years need to be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed‐term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or the doctor has equivalent experience and competencies.Desirable experience Experience at SHO level or above of working in the field of Perinatal Psychiatry.Clinical governance Commitment to involvement in on‐site programme of clinical governance.Desirable clinical governance Knowledge of evidence‐based practice, clinical audit and involvement of users and carers in service provision.Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.Certificate of Sponsorship Applications from job seekers who require UK Skilled Worker sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications.UK Registration Applicants must have current UK professional registration.Details Pay scheme: Hospital medical and dental staff.Grade: Specialty Doctor.Salary: £61,542 to £99,216 a year.Contract: Fixed term.Duration: 12 months.Working pattern: Full‐time, Part‐time, Flexible working.Reference number: C9369-26-0020.Job location: Jasmine Lodge, Dryden Road, Exeter, EX2 5SN.
