Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) is seeking a Band 7 Specialist Dietitian to join our Eating Disorder Pathway. This role offers an opportunity to provide expert dietetic care to children and young people experiencing eating disorders, including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and Atypical Eating Disorders. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to comprehensive assessments, develop individualised nutritional care plans, and support the recovery journey of our patients. Your expertise will be vital in delivering evidence-based interventions and collaborating with mental health professionals, paediatricians, and psychiatrists to ensure holistic care.

Main Duties

  • Conduct specialist dietetic assessments for young people with eating disorders.
  • Develop and implement individualised nutritional care plans.
  • Provide expert advice and consultation to colleagues, families, and other professionals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to coordinate comprehensive care.
  • Contribute to service development, research, and clinical audits.
  • Offer clinical supervision and support to junior colleagues or trainees as appropriate.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to maintain and enhance clinical skills.

About Us

Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) comprises an alliance of NHS organisations working together to improve health outcomes for children and young people in Devon. CFHD provides integrated care and treatment across physical and mental health through Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust and Devon Partnership Trust, working closely with other organisations and providers to deliver locality and county‑wide based integrated access to services, based on the i‑Thrive Framework. CFHD works closely with local universities of Plymouth, Exeter & the Peninsula Medical School to support students in clinical training placements and supports staff to undertake postgraduate training. Our integrated care and treatment has been developed and refined in partnership with children, young people and their families/carers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work as a fully integrated member of the multi‑disciplinary Children and Young Peoples Eating Disorders Service (community).
  • Act as a specialist autonomous practitioner providing dietetic support and advice to patients and health professionals in the Eating Disorders dietetic service.
  • Lead and contribute to policy development on matters relating to service development for dietetics within the Eating Disorders Service.
  • Develop appropriate resources within this specialist area of dietetic practice.
  • Help to establish research and development and a robust audit review of service within this specialist area of dietetics.

Person Specification

Experience – Essential

  • Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers, using goal‑based care and routine outcome measures in practice.
  • Working collaboratively in a multi‑disciplinary team and across agencies.
  • Working with children and young people’s mental health needs, families and parents/carers, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in highly emotive and distressing situations.
  • Undertaking specialist mental health assessment and therapeutic interventions for children’s mental health, including risk assessments.

Qualifications – Essential

  • Professional knowledge acquired through a degree supplemented by specialist training or equivalent experience to Masters level with a relevant core dietetics professional qualification.
  • Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or equivalent leading to registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Dietitian.
  • Training in an evidence‑based therapeutic approach.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Understanding of relevant legislation pertaining to child mental health.
  • High level knowledge of mental health presentations in children/young people and knowledge of theory and practice of short‑term and long‑term, evidence‑based clinical interventions in child mental health.
  • Extensive dietetic knowledge covering broad areas including diabetes, obesity, gastroenterology, paediatrics.
  • Specialist skill in communicating complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, families, carers and other professionals.
  • Enhanced DBS check required.
  • Ability to travel across Devon.
