Band 6 Senior Mental Health Practitioner – Fixed Term (1 year)
Job Summary
You will provide specialist assessment, formulation and intervention for young people experiencing moderate to severe mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, self‑harm and emotional dysregulation. Working collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary team, you will deliver evidence‑based, person‑centred care to young people and families/carers, supporting early and effective intervention.
Main Duties
- Conduct specialist mental health assessments using a strengths‑based, person‑centred approach.
- Develop and implement tailored care plans incorporating CBT, DBT‑informed and systemic family work.
- Provide individual and group‑based therapeutic interventions for young people with mood, emotion and relationship difficulties.
- Collaborate within a multi‑disciplinary team to ensure coordinated care (psychologists, therapists, nurses, social workers).
- Offer consultation, training and support to colleagues, families and partner agencies.
- Support junior staff and trainees through supervision and guidance.
- Ensure safeguarding and risk management procedures are followed.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to service development through audit and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree level or equivalent professional qualification (Psychological profession, Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, etc.).
- Professional registration/accreditation (NMC, HCPC, Social Work England, UKCP, BABCP).
- Substantial experience of managing complex caseloads of children/young people with severe mental health presentations.
- Experience in a multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency environment.
- Experience delivering model‑based psychological therapy.
- Desirable: Recognised evidence‑based therapeutic qualification, postgraduate qualification relevant to the specialism, clinical supervision qualification.
- Desirable: User involvement, mentoring students.
- Computer literacy and ability to travel across the geographical area as required.
