Senior Family and Systemic Psychotherapist – Mood, Emotions and Relationships (MERs) Pathway, Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD). Fixed term for 6 months; secondment requests considered. 0.76 WTE (28.5 hours per week). Based in Exeter. Opportunity to contribute to a developing pathway supporting children and young people experiencing complex emotional and mental health challenges.

As a valued member of a multi-disciplinary team, you will deliver systemic family therapy and contribute to specialist assessments, care planning, consultation, supervision, and service development. You will join a growing network of systemic practitioners across CFHD with regular supervision and development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist family and systemic assessments and interventions for children, young people, and families in line with evidence-based practice and NICE guidelines
  • Manage a caseload of children and young people with complex mental health presentations, ensuring care is timely, collaborative, and tailored to individual needs
  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary team discussions and care planning; offer systemic consultation and reflective input
  • Provide supervision and support to junior colleagues and systemic trainees as appropriate
  • Offer training and consultation to internal colleagues and external partners to promote systemic thinking across services
  • Actively contribute to service development and quality improvement, including participation in audits and feedback-led changes
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records; adhere to professional and organisational standards

Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) comprises an alliance of NHS organisations working to improve health outcomes for children and young people in Devon. CFHD provides integrated care across physical and mental health, delivered by Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and Devon Partnership Trust. We work with other organisations to provide locality- and county-wide access to services based on the i-Thrive Framework. We support students in clinical training placements and staff in post-graduate training. Our approach is developed in partnership with children, young people and their families/carers. Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential)

  • Masters-level qualification in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy
  • Active registration with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) as a Systemic and Family Therapist
  • Post-qualification specialist therapy/assessment training relevant to children and young people
  • Post-qualification training or proven equivalent experience in supervision

Experience (Essential)

  • Experience of working collaboratively with service users and families/carers, using goal-based care and routine outcome measures
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team and across agencies
  • Experience with a wide range of child mental health problems across age ranges and clinical severities, maintaining professionalism
  • Experience in specialist mental health assessment and therapeutic interventions for children and young people with complex needs, including risk assessments
  • Experience in providing clinical supervision, teaching, training and assessment
  • Experience safeguarding children and ensuring safety in partnership with other agencies
  • Experience promoting anti-discriminatory practice and diversity
  • Experience initiating and chairing multi-professional and inter-agency meetings
  • Experience delivering professional teaching and developing training programmes
  • Experience exercising clinical responsibility for children and young people’s care

Skills (Essential)

  • Ability to travel across Devon
