Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered mental health or learning disability nurse
  • Understanding of NSF Mental Health Act/MH Capacity Act; CPA; recovery principles in Mental Health
  • Ability to provide and receive complex sensitive information with staff, service users, families and carers
  • Ability to assess and manage risk, lead and supervise staff, and manage time effectively
  • Good liaison skills and ability to manage difficult and complex situations
  • Flexibility in work patterns; ability to work without direct supervision

Desirable

  • Knowledge of rehabilitation services
  • Mentorship training; management and leadership training

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial post-registration experience as a Band 5 in an acute/rehab inpatient setting; ability to manage complex clinical situations; experience supporting junior staff or students
  • Experience contributing to risk assessment and management plans
  • Ability to apply clinical governance and evidence-based practice
  • Experience working within an MDT; clinical supervision and mentoring experience; experience of managing staff; successful completion of Preceptorship; ability to work without direct supervision

Desirable

  • Leadership or management training
  • Experience of completing audit work
