Devon Partnership NHS Trust is looking for a motivated and experienced Facilities Lead Waste & Community to join our Facilities team based in Dawlish. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a vital role in supporting frontline clinical services by ensuring safe, compliant and efficient waste management and soft facilities services across our Trust estate.

The Role: As Facilities Lead Waste & Community, you will be responsible for managing the operational delivery of waste management throughout the Trust estate, ensuring services are delivered to a consistently high standard and in line with all relevant legislation, NHS guidance and Trust policies. The post holder will have agreed autonomy to work within boundaries set by the Facilities Manager to execute appropriate actions necessary to manage and maintain a range of soft facilities services across the Trust estate. You will proactively identify issues, resolve problems, and report any significant barriers to delivery to the Facilities Manager, while taking immediate action to ensure a continuous service is delivered to patients, staff and visitors. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strong organisational skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Main duties:

  • To ensure compliance with statutory targets and recognised safe practices, including monitoring and challenging the standards of externally appointed contractors and providing contract performance data to the Facilities Manager.
  • To provide technical support and advice to managers and staff of the various operational areas within the Trust pertaining to waste management and associated services.
  • Both scheduled and ad hoc visits to community sites as required for the role and the wider facilities function.
  • To support the Facilities Lead Cleaning & Hygiene with the monitoring and auditing of facilities services in the community.
  • To provide assurance that waste management within the trust is compliant with regulation and trust targets.

Person Specification – Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through relevant experience.
  • NVQ 4 or equivalent qualification in Managing Hazardous Waste Transfers.
  • Management qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • Able to travel between Trust sites.
  • Standard DBS Check required.
  • Significant experience in a facilities or waste management environment at assistant manager level or higher, with knowledge of hazardous waste management.
  • Experience of monitoring contractors and resolving issues.

Knowledge:

  • Management of Health and Safety Regulations 1999; Environmental Protection Act 1990; Hazardous Waste Regulations; other related regulations.
  • IT literacy in MS Office and data reporting.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of NHS contracting processes, infection control in healthcare, and risk management.
  • Experience with tendering, recruitment, and employment legislation.

Experience:

  • Experience in a facilities or waste management environment at assistant manager level or higher.
  • Experience monitoring contractors and resolving related issues.
