Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join Devon Partnership NHS Trust as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Older Peoples Mental Health within the Teignbridge Community Mental Health Team. You will step into a valued post, contributing to high-quality, recovery-focused care for older adults across a diverse locality. The role offers a balance of complex clinical work, leadership, service development and teaching, with opportunities for professional growth, CPD and peer support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior medical leadership to the Teignbridge Older Peoples Community Mental Health Team, with expert assessment, diagnosis and management of older adults with functional mental illness and moderate to severe dementia (including behavioural and psychological symptoms).
- Work primarily in a consultative and supervisory capacity within a multidisciplinary team, with direct involvement in complex cases.
- Undertake outpatient clinics, home and care-home visits, contribute to memory assessment services, and participate in the locality Section 12 daytime rota.
- Support safe transitions between community, inpatient and liaison services; provide supervision to senior practitioners; contribute to clinical governance, audit, teaching and service development.
- Provide leadership within the team and collaborate with primary care, acute services and social care partners.

Person Specification
Management
- Essential: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and managers; awareness of NHS management and funding arrangements.
- Desirable: Management training/experience; involvement in service development.
Teaching and Supervision
- Essential: Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.
- Desirable: Evidence of additional teaching skills; experience as a lecturer or supervisor; experience in clinical supervision.
Research
- Essential: Ability to interpret published research and apply findings to clinical practice.
- Desirable: Aptitude for and practical experience of research.
Qualifications
- Essential: Full GMC registration; Approved Clinician status at start; eligible for inclusion in Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT; Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
- Desirable: MRCPsych; other professional qualifications (e.g., CBT, PSI, CAT); CCT in Old Age.
Experience
- Essential: Prior experience in a Community Mental Health Team; psychiatric practice across settings (especially community); experience in audit and clinical governance.
- Desirable: Evidence of development of a special interest in community psychiatry; commitment to improving clinical care quality.
Aptitudes and Values
