Job SummarySpecialist Psychiatrist role at Moorland View Acute Psychiatric Ward, North Devon. Responsibilities include senior medical leadership, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and multidisciplinary team support. Works 9ā5 Monday to Friday at North Devon District Hospital, Barnstaple.
Responsibilities
Provide senior medical leadership within an acute psychiatric ward.
Work within the MDT and offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients on Moorland View psychiatric ward.
Deliver expert clinical services in support of patients and their families/carers as judged necessary.
QualificationsEssential
MB BS or equivalent
GMC registration
Desirable
Membership or Affiliateship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.
Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
ExperienceEssential
Minimum of 12 years medical work (continuous or aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification, with a minimum of six years in a relevant specialty (Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades). Equivalent years of experience from other medical grades or overseas are accepted.

Experience at senior level working in the field of Psychiatry.
Experience of Home Treatment or equivalent.
Experience delivering supervision of nonāmedical prescribers.
Clinical Skills and KnowledgeEssential
Excellent clinical skills in interviewing and physical and psychological assessment of patients.
Writing comprehensive, clear medical notes.
Ability to manage crises and act independently.
Ability to manage potentially violent and disturbed patients.
Confidence in assessing and managing physical health problems and emergencies.
Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983.
Good knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation including the MCA.
Good knowledge of clinical risk management.
Good knowledge of evidenceābased strategies for management of psychiatric disorder.
Desirable
Upātoādate CPR training.
Ability to apply psychological models to practical situations.
Understanding of NHS organisational arrangements including social care.
Clinical GovernanceEssential
Commitment to involvement in onāsite programme of clinical governance.
