The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group is on the lookout for a seafarer to work within the workboat fleet.

Job Summary

As a workboat crewmember you will be working as part of a 2-person team, ensuring that freight is moved for our customers, as required by the freight team. The role is demanding and varied.

Key Responsibilities

  • Freight operations (including planning, crane operations, and securing)
  • Navigation
  • Vessel maintenance and upkeep (including dry-docking)

Skills and Knowledge

It is expected that you have a minimum basic knowledge of the following (however, training can be given):

  • Communications – including use of VHF and UHF radios.
  • Navigation and vessel handling – the ability to manoeuvre small workboats and check position using bridge equipment.
  • Berthing – bring workboat alongside and handling mooring ropes to secure the workboat.
  • Safe cargo handling – assist in slinging of loads, crane operations.

You will be expected to follow instructions immediately during an emergency, appreciate the need for safety on board, carry out your duties to the best of your ability, work flexibly, work as part of a team, be considerate to other crew members and to protect the environment from marine pollution wherever possible.

  • English and Maths to GCSE (or equivalent) grade C or 4.
  • MCA ENG1 medical (if not held, we will pay for this after a successful interview)
