This full-time post is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Specialist Doctor to join our Haematology Team. There is room in the job plan for applicants to undertake their own clinics and to develop a sub-speciality interest.
Main duties of the job:
- The appointee will, together with their consultant colleague, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, efficient and cost-effective clinical haematology, haemato-oncology and blood transfusion service to the IW NHS and other users of the service.
Job responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive clinical haematology care, out-patient, day case and inpatient, working within an MDT structure.
- Provide liaison and clinical advice about Haematology test results, anticoagulation and blood transfusion to the hospital and primary care physicians.
- Review and authorise blood films referred by Biomedical Scientists for second opinion.
- Participate in clinical governance and clinical audit.
- Share in one in three consultant haematology on call rota.
- Participate in the Royal College of Pathologists or Physicians CPD scheme.
- Contribute to undergraduate education, and the training of postgraduate trainees in Haematology as well as non-medical staff.
- Contribute to the research output and administration needs of the department.
- Contribute to the bone marrow lists in the department.
- Provision of Outpatient services for haematology patients, anticipated to undertake 2 formal clinics per week and additional clinics for urgent cases and patients on chemotherapy as necessary.
- Supervise haematology patients undergoing treatment in day care settings.
- Maintain and improve the quality of the Haematology laboratory service to provide a high quality, comprehensive diagnostic service.
Person Specification:
- Qualifications: MRCP or Equivalent, On the GMC specialist register.
- Experience: Evidence of achievements of Foundation competencies in line with GMC, wide range of general experience in Haematology.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of current trends in the specialty.
- Audit and Research: Evidence of participation in clinical audit relevant to specialty, published audits, publication in reviewed journals.
- Personality: Ability to work as a team member, attendance at communications workshop/courses, experience in leadership.
- Motivation: Commitment to the development of a high quality, cost effective service in Haematology.
- Management: Knowledge and understanding of current NHS issues, ability to develop services, attendance at recognised management course/meetings.
- Other requirements: Full registration with General Medical Council and licence to practise by date of appointment, Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
