Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust (PHU) and Isle of Wight Trust (IWT) are committed to delivering safe, effective, and innovative digital healthcare. We are seeking a highly motivated registered professional to undertake the role of Clinical Safety Officer to lead on clinical risk management and ensure compliance with national safety standards, including DCB 0129 and DCB 0160.
This is a pivotal role that offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to embed a culture of safety and continuous improvement across digital health initiatives.
Main duties of the job
- Lead and coordinate clinical risk assessments for digital health systems and services.
- Ensure compliance with NHS Digital clinical safety standards (DCB 0129 and DCB 0160).
- Collaborate with clinical, digital, and operational stakeholders to implement robust safety strategies.
- Maintain comprehensive clinical safety documentation, including hazard logs, safety cases and risk mitigation strategies.

You may be based at either IWT or PHU and individuals may be required to undertake business travel between sites. For leaders managing staff across multi-site locations, you will need to be visible and provide in person leadership. The arrangements and frequency will be agreed locally.
Job responsibilities
- The post holder will act as an Clinical Safety Professional, working with Technology and Clinical Teams to support and advise the Trust on compliance with NHS Digital Information Standards DCB0129: Clinical Risk Management: its Application in the Manufacture of Health IT Systems and DCB0160: Clinical Risk Management: its Application in the Deployment and Use of Health IT Systems.
- The post holder will assist in ensuring the safe delivery of organisational and programme changes to the Trust and its partner organisations, and work within the Clinical Safety Team as an advanced practitioner and have responsibility for guidance and assurance of governance process.

Experience
- Demonstrable experience in clinical risk management and patient safety.
- Possession of a Clinical Safety Officer qualification, or a willingness to undertake training to achieve accreditation.
Additional criteria
- Registered Healthcare Professional with up to date professional registration (e.g., Nurse, Allied Health Professional, Pharmacist); In-depth knowledge of NHS clinical safety standards, particularly DCB 0129 and DCB 0160; Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills; Proactive and solution-focused approach to digital healthcare safety.
- Membership of NHSD Clinical Safety Officer community of interest; Training in risk assessment and safety management of clinical information systems; Maintains a portfolio of CPD in line with regulatory body standards.
