The Isle of Wight Council is looking for two expert volunteers to join a working group exploring replacement options for Floating Bridge 6. Your insight could influence thousands of daily journeys across the River Medina.

The appointed qualified persons will bring additional technical and commercial insight, local awareness and constructive challenge to councillors, officers, advisors and stakeholders during a defined review period.

Key Role
  • Attend and actively contribute to monthly working group meetings from November 2025 to end of March 2026.
  • Attend and contribute at three scheduled workshops connected to the review process.
  • Review and comment on supplier information submitted as part of the Council’s upcoming Preliminary Market Engagement exercise.
  • Share practical, evidence-based views to help the working group assess operational, technical and setting-related implications for replacement options.
  • Provide clear written feedback when requested by the working group lead.
Required Experience and Skills
  • Awareness of floating bridge operation and operational challenges.
  • Local knowledge of the River Medina setting and Cowes East Cowes operational environment.
  • Relevant technical or professional background such as marine engineering, maritime operations, ferry logistics, transport planning, commercial marine operations, or similar.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with elected members, technical officers and suppliers and to produce concise, constructive written comments.
