Full-Time No working from home possible
Isle of Man Government

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse ready to make a meaningful impact in a secure healthcare setting in the dedicated healthcare wing at the Isle of Man Prison in Jurby West, just five minutes from Ramsey. This highly varied role offers the opportunity to utilise a broad range of nursing and leadership skills.

You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping offender healthcare, providing expert nursing care, advice, and support to individuals with a wide range of physical and mental health needs. It’s a rare opportunity to gain experience across all aspects of nursing, from emergency response and chronic disease management to mental health and health promotion.

While experience in custodial healthcare is desirable, we welcome applicants from primary care, emergency care, or mental health backgrounds. You’ll have the chance to work autonomously, expand your clinical skills, and contribute meaningfully to the rehabilitation and wellbeing of those in custody.

The healthcare team is part of the Integrated Primary and Community Care Group and is committed to delivering services equivalent to those available in the wider community. Our goal is to empower individuals to take control of their health and adopt healthier lifestyles.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert nursing care and support to offenders with diverse physical and mental health needs.
  • Respond to emergencies and manage chronic conditions.
  • Promote mental health and health promotion initiatives.
  • Work autonomously within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to the rehabilitation and wellbeing of people in custody.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse licence.
  • Desirable experience in custodial or equivalent healthcare settings; experience in primary care, emergency care or mental health also acceptable.
  • Strong communication and leadership potential.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Benefits

  • Higher salaries compared to the UK with annual increases beyond typical NHS pay scales.
  • Generous annual leave entitlement starting at 27 days plus 10 public holidays.
  • Access to the Isle of Man Public Service pension arrangements (Unified Scheme 2011 or Defined Contribution).
  • Free on‑site car parking.
  • On‑site education and training centre with lecture theatre, medical library, training facilities and simulation lab.
  • Professional development courses funded up to Masters level.
  • Unpaid career break after 3 years of service.
  • Cycle to Work scheme after first year.
  • Learning, Education and Development training facility for continuous professional development.
  • Access to the Isle of Man Government Staff Welfare Service for counselling and support.
  • Possible accommodation assistance for the first 6 months at a reduced rate for non‑Island residents.
  • Relocation package up to £7,000 based on receipts and housing assistance up to £250 per month.
  • Recruitment incentive of £3,000 payable in the 1st, 13th and 25th months.

Things to Note

An enhanced barring police check is required for this post; the cost of the check will be covered by the Isle of Man Government. A provisional interview date has been set for 21 August 2026.
