About the role
Ready to oversee high quality analytical work that underpins safety and standards across the Isle of Man? As Government Analyst, you will lead the Isle of Man Government Laboratory, based in Douglas, the main town in the Isle of Man. You will oversee the delivery of high quality chemical and microbiological analysis for Government, public bodies and the commercial sector. Your work will support essential services across the Island - from food safety and water quality to environmental monitoring and national resilience planning.
In this specialist role, you will manage laboratory resources, guide a highly skilled team, and ensure the continued delivery of a robust, accredited analytical service. You will use your scientific expertise to interpret complex data, provide clear professional advice, and uphold our UKAS accredited standards across a varied analytical programme. As part of this role, you will be appointed as Public Analyst for the Island, responsible for delivery of analysis for official food control, and in support of local food producers. Your team will also play a vital role in safeguarding the Island's water supply by testing mains and private drinking water, and you will contribute to our expanding environmental analysis, including sea water, surface water and biota. This includes the monitoring of radioactivity arising from historical events such as Chernobyl and Fukushima.
As a statutory member of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, and a key contributor to the Health Protection Committee and Resilience Group, you will serve as the principal scientific adviser within your remit, operating with a high degree of autonomy and trust. If leading a respected laboratory and delivering science at the heart of public protection inspires you, we would love to hear from you!
