We are looking for a dedicated Teacher of Design & Technology to join Ballakermeen High School’s highly successful Design & Technology Department. The role will primarily involve working within the Food Technology area with some KS3 Graphics responsibilities. The department is well‑resourced, with 7 teachers across all specialisms, 2 of whom are Food Technology specialists. The ability to teach Food Technology at Key Stages 3‑4 is essential.

All teacher interviews will take place in person at Ballakermeen High School on the Isle of Man. Short‑listed applicants will be asked to teach a lesson on the interview day and will have a tour of the school, neither of which can take place remotely. Candidates should hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and meet the other essential criteria detailed in the Person Specification for the role.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the ability to teach Food Technology at Key Stages 3‑4.
  • Meeting all other criteria detailed in the Person Specification, including an enhanced due to barring police check (cost covered by the Isle of Man Government).

No relocation package is available for this role.

Benefits

  • Newly qualified teachers will automatically start on a generous salary of £42,718 per annum (spine point M4).
  • A competitive salary that increases each 12 months until you reach the salary maximum.
  • Subject to meeting eligibility criteria, you will be offered two pension arrangements: the Teachers Superannuation scheme or the Isle of Man Government Defined Contribution (DC) arrangement.
  • If you are returning to the island and have participated in the Department’s Student Loan scheme for tuition fees, the loan will be repaid by the Department upon completion of your second year working as a teacher at one of the island’s schools.
  • The repayment is subject to a maximum of £7,500 for a three year degree course or £10,000 for a four year degree course, and the requirements detailed in the Teacher Loan Cancellation Policy.
  • If you are an Early Career Teacher, you will receive payments of £2,000 at the beginning of your first and second school years in teaching, following the completion of the ECT induction period (2 years).
  • For those returning to the island after graduating from university, you will receive a refund on your national insurance contributions during the first 12 months of your employment, up to £4,400.
  • Access to the Isle of Man Public Service Cycle to Work scheme after your first year of employment.
  • Access to the Learning, Education and Development training facility, which is exclusively for Public Service employees, to keep on top of your continuous professional development.
