About the role
Ready to kick-start a hands‑on engineering career, earn while you learn, and work on everything from buses to heavy plant machinery?
We have two exciting Apprentice Vehicle Engineering Craftsperson positions available based at Banks Circus and Ellerslie Depot within the Department of Infrastructure.
Working alongside experienced and qualified engineers, you’ll learn how to service, maintain and repair Government vehicles, plant and equipment while developing practical skills across a range of commercial vehicle engineering disciplines.
You’ll gain experience in areas including auto‑electrics, welding and fabrication, vehicle body repair and bus maintenance, giving you exposure to a varied and rewarding trade.
As part of our large, friendly workshop team, you’ll be supported by experienced colleagues who will help you build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed in your career.
How does the apprenticeship work?
An apprenticeship combines practical, on‑the‑job experience with structured learning, allowing you to gain a recognised qualification while earning a salary throughout your training.
This is a four‑year apprenticeship programme designed to develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a qualified Engineering Craftsperson.
During this time you’ll gain hands‑on experience within our workshops while learning from experienced engineers and industry professionals.
In your first year you’ll study at University College Isle of Man.
This will be followed by three years of specialist commercial vehicle training at approved colleges in the UK, covering all aspects of the maintenance and repair of commercial vehicles and heavy plant.
As part of the programme you’ll attend college for eight one‑week training blocks each academic year, helping you build the expertise needed for a successful career in vehicle engineering.
