About the role
The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA) works to protect and enhance the Island’s natural and built assets, guided by the core principles of environmental, economic and social sustainability. Our focus includes optimising quality of life, strengthening the Island’s international reputation, supporting food production, ensuring energy security and promoting outdoor amenity.
DEFA is proud to work in partnership with all sectors of the Manx community to safeguard and enhance the essentials of life – food, air, land and water. The Department holds policy responsibility for a wide range of areas including agriculture, animal health and welfare, environmental protection, energy, food, forestry, fisheries, ecosystems, planning and building control and provides the Island’s development management function.
As Chief Officer, you will provide strategic leadership and direction for the Department, ensuring the delivery of effective programmes and services in line with the Island Plan and the Department’s Service Delivery Plans. As the most senior civil servant within the Department, you will be a confident, visible leader who upholds the values of the Public Service and drives forward DEFA’s priorities.
