The Gas Meter Reader is responsible for accurately reading and recording gas meter data from residential and commercial properties. This role involves significant customer interaction, ensuring all queries are addressed professionally. The Gas Meter Reader must adhere to safety protocols, report irregularities, and perform debt disconnections as required. Efficient route planning and equipment maintenance are also key aspects of this position. This role is a 12 month fixed term contract.

Meter Reader Responsibilities:

  • Accurate Meter Reading: Visit residential and commercial properties to read gas meters accurately.
  • Debt Disconnections: Perform disconnections of gas supply for customers with outstanding debts, following company policies and procedures.
  • Customer Interaction: Communicate effectively with customers, addressing any queries or concerns regarding their gas usage.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and guidelines while performing duties, including wearing appropriate protective gear.
  • Safety Checks on Meters: Conduct regular safety checks on gas meters to ensure they are functioning correctly and safely.
  • Reporting: Report any irregularities or issues with gas meters to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
  • Route Planning: Plan and optimise routes to ensure efficient coverage of assigned areas.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and care for meter reading equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition.
  • Documentation: Complete necessary paperwork and documentation related to meter readings and customer interactions.

Experience: Previous experience in a similar role or customer service is preferred but not mandatory.
