The Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014 places a duty on Local Authorities to provide a preventative approach to the delivery of wellbeing to its citizens. To enable us to improve our response to this duty, the Resilient Families Team provides intensive and rapid support to families with the aim of strengthening resilience, preventing family breakdown, and promoting change so that the family environment is a safe one.
The Resilient Families Team aims to:
- Work intensively with families to keep their children out of care.
- Work intensively with families for reunification within 8 weeks of the child becoming cared for.
- Work intensively with identified families for the reunification of their children who are currently in care and for whom a return home has been identified as a long term permanency plan.
The Team consists of professionals with the skills and experience of working directly with children who receive care and support, and with parents and adults with complex health and social care needs. The team works proactively and intensively with families to manage risk and respond calmly to crises through innovative ways, provide practical support and therapeutic skills, strengthen resilience and parenting capacity, and reduce risk within families to bring about improved outcomes for children and young people.
